All of us are faced with situations where we want to control some behavior of someone else.  If the person we are dating is overeating we might want to control their eating.  If a person we are living with is making a mess we may want to control their behavior so that they put their things away.  The problem we face is that people often resent our efforts to control them no matter how justified.  In fact our efforts to control people may lead them to do the opposite of what we want because of the resentment it engenders.  Some thoughts about influencing people that are less likely to create resentment are on the persuasion page of this web site.
