The Power of A Smile

A Smile is the Biggest Aphrodesiac

Women are attracted to the man who is having the most fun,
Women are attracted to the man who is happy with his own life,
A big smile and having a great time demonstrates that from across the room.

The Secrets of Meeting and Charming Women

Smiles spread happiness.    The song  Put on A Happy Face expresses this as does the poem A Smile is a Funny Thing and the poem Smiling is Infectious.  A religious leader wrote a profound essay about the importance of a smile.  A smile even saved a life.     There is nothing that adds more beauty to a face than a smile.  There is nothing that touches the heart more than a smile (except maybe laughter).  When people remember their lovers one of the most precious things they remember is their smile.  The Shadow of Your Smile is a song which beautifully expresses this. Another song When Irish Eyes are Smiling does too.  When you're smiling, the whole world smiles with you.

Does this mean we should try and smile all the time?  People will consider anyone who does that to be mentally unstable.   Does it mean that occasionally we should force a smile?  Forcing a smile is putting on an act and not being oneself.  I think that it's best that we be who we are than act who we are not.  The best thing I think we can do is have as the French say, a Joie De Vivre.  Then when we smile it's natural and we aren't putting on an act.   We can try to think the best of others so that a smile comes to our face without our putting on an act.  In fact when we give the gift of positive regard to others, others often regard us positively and give us more reason to smile.  If someone we are attracted to smiles at us, that's a good time to smile back.  It's important not to be force a smile but it is also important not to be afraid to smile.  A smile is a gift of love.

The following  are the lyrics to a song from the Freudian Slip "Plugged" Album, recorded live at Dungannon Presbyterian Halls, September 1992.

And Then She Smiles

The wind is blowing cold tonight
It'll be the same tomorrow
Bare trees reach for the sky in gestures of sorrow

I struggle to recall the night
It seems so long ago
When she turned away without a sound
It's not much, but it's all that I know.

I know I've no right to shake at these bars -
It's a prison I deserve.
But the days of my sentence seem to go by like years -
How many more must I serve?

And then she smiles,
and the stars peep through to watch her
Then she smiles,
and the sea hurls itself against the shore
Then she smiles,
and the forest whispers softly -
And then she smiles...

I see no reason to complain here - I can live with my pride
I can manage without more complications tearing my life up -
Besides,

For every plus there's a minus, for every pro there's a con,
For every Yes there's a No.
But what's happened has happened - the important thing is
It was all so long ago.

And then she smiles,
and the stars peep through to watch her
Then she smiles,
and the sea hurls itself against the shore
Then she smiles,
and the forest whispers softly -
And then she smiles...
